CARE INSTRUCTIONS

LIGHT:  Crassula ovata ‘Minor’ thrives in full sun to bright indirect light. Outdoors, it loves direct morning sun. Indoors, a south- or west-facing window is ideal — at least 4 hours of bright light daily. In lower light, stems become etiolated (stretched and leggy) and the plant loses its compact, tree-like structure. Bright light also encourages the red leaf-tip blush that makes this variety especially attractive.

WATER:  Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. Jade plants store water in their thick, fleshy leaves and stems — they are highly susceptible to root rot from overwatering. In winter, reduce watering significantly. Wrinkled or slightly soft leaves are the plant’s signal that it is thirsty; yellow or mushy leaves indicate overwatering.

SOIL & POT:  Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent potting mix. Add perlite if the mix feels heavy. Always use a pot with drainage holes — jade plants are especially prone to root rot in pots without drainage. The ‘Minor’ variety stays compact and works beautifully in smaller decorative pots.

SEASONAL TIPS:  Jade plants can be kept outdoors in summer in a sunny spot, which promotes vigorous growth. Bring indoors before temperatures drop below 50°F. Cool, dry winter conditions (limiting water and keeping temperatures around 55–60°F) can encourage late-winter blooming on mature plants. Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep them looking their best.

PROPAGATION
One of the easiest succulents to propagate. Allow a stem cutting or single leaf to callous for 1–2 days, then place on top of dry succulent mix. Begin light watering once roots appear. Stem cuttings root faster and develop into fuller plants more quickly than leaf cuttings.

HOW THIS PLANT GROWS
Crassula ovata ‘Minor’ is a dwarf, compact form of the classic jade plant — producing the same glossy, oval, deep green leaves with reddish margins, but staying smaller and more proportionate for indoor containers and bonsai-style growing. Over time, it develops a thick, woody trunk and branching structure that gives it the appearance of a miniature tree. It is a genuinely long-lived plant — well-cared-for jade plants can live for decades.

GROW JOYFULLY
The jade plant is one of the most enduring and beloved houseplants in the world — and for good reason. It asks for very little, grows slowly and beautifully, and becomes more interesting with every passing year. The ‘Minor’ brings all of that charm in a perfectly compact form.
